Fitness Goals
Each new year means new resolutions, and what more common resolutions are out there than “to get in shape” or “to lose weight”. One could say that a resolution is a goal, and for namesake we will, but what’s the secret to actually achieving it?
The secret is approach. People set fitness goals now because they have that “clean slate feeling”. But, its how they approach those fitness goals that determine whether or not they will achieve them. To learn the secrets behind setting fitness goals and how to successfully achieve them, continue reading.
How To Set Fitness Goals
Here are a few tips to consider when setting fitness goals for yourself:
- Start Smart. Choose a realistic fitness goal, something you know you’ll be able to achieve in a realistic amount of time.
- Plan Wisely. Find a steady increment. Create a time-line that includes certain milestones for you to reach. Try to set these at equal intervals of time that is easy for you to track.
- Stick With It. Don’t give up on your fitness goal if your not seeing results. If need be, reset or downgrade your fitness goal to something more reachable.
- Achieve and Continue. Once you reach that first milestone, begin working towards the next. If your overachieving your fitness goal, expand on or increase your expectations for the second milestone.
- Stay Positive. Things don’t happen overnight. Believe in your goal and you’ll end up believing in yourself.
- Get Support. Let your peers know what you’re trying to do. Encouragement is healthy and always helps. If possible, try to get someone to do it with you.
The Key To Achieving Fitness Goals
Setting small, incremental fitness goals is the key ingredient to successfully follow through with any fitness resolution. By setting several minor, underlying goals, it gives one a better chance to stay committed throughout the year.
Most people evaluate their accomplishments by looking at the big picture, “Did I lose 30 lbs?”. These people find themselves tragically disappointed when they don’t. But, if those people look at the smaller picture, “Did I lose 5 lbs this month?”, they will find it easier to achieve and stay committed to their ultimate goal.
Hopefully these goal-setting tips will help you to create a solid, realistic list of achievable fitness goals. Most are common knowledge, but the one that should be considered the most is the need to set several underlying fitness goals. This will help to motivate one to plugging away. And, always remember, “without goals you achieve nothing”.
Happy New Year and Good luck!
